Calories in chicken shawarma: 550–900 — and the sauce decides which end

USDA FoodData Central has no "shawarma" entry (verified 2026-07-28) — so every one-number answer online is somebody's guess. The honest method is components with stated amounts:

The component math (street wrap, ~350 g)

ComponentTypicalBasis (per 100 g)kcal
Chicken thigh, spit-roasted, with fat150 gChicken thigh, rotisserie, skin eaten — FDC 2706035: 226 kcal, 22.5 P / 15.1 F≈339
Flatbread/lafa110–130 gtypical wheat flatbread ≈ 275 kcal/100 g (no single FNDDS pita row surfaced — stated as a typical value, not a citation)≈300–360
Garlic sauce (toum) — mostly oil1–2 tbsp≈ 90–100 kcal per tbsp90–200
Pickles, tomato, onionminor≈20

Total ≈ 780 kcal typical; 550–900 is the honest range. A small wrap with light sauce sits near 550; a double-meat, extra-toum plate with fries stuffed in blows past 900. The single biggest swing — ~200 kcal — is invisible in every photo: how heavy the sauce hand was.

Protein is the good news: that same wrap carries ~38–45 g protein. Ask for extra pickles, go easy on toum, and shawarma is one of the better street-food deals in protein-per-calorie.

Proba photographs your actual shawarma, itemizes it (grams editable before saving — fix the bread size, halve the sauce), and cites the USDA line behind every number on a pull-down receipt. Same wrap, same answer, every time — run the five-scan test.
